From 15 to 600 concurrent users, two months before launch
A mortgage application due for 300 branches handled 15 concurrent users against a target of 500. In under four weeks, I got it to 600.
The challenge
Two months before launch, a web-based mortgage-lending application was due to roll out to 300 branches with an average workload of 500 concurrent users. The existing systems and software architecture could support about fifteen.
What I did
- Analysed the systems and software architecture, and proposed a rescue plan the bank could deliver before launch.
- Fine-tuned the environments and added clustering at the HTTP, application server and database levels.
- Profiled and monitored the application to identify bottlenecks, and refactored it.
The outcome
In under four weeks, the application could support 600 concurrent users, comfortably above the 500 target.
